Our Vision
The story of Within the Village began in the summer of 2020, when founders Lorna Mayne, Maria Murphy, and Keith Kissane discovered a charming, timeworn bar and guesthouse for sale in the heart of Roundstone village on Ireland’s scenic west coast. What followed was a vision to transform it into a sustainable luxury holiday destination that embraces nature, heritage, and mindful living.
What started as a simple idea has evolved into a boutique retreat for modern travelers, offering an escape for those who cherish thoughtful design, authentic architecture, and a profound connection to nature.
Inspired by unforgettable stays around the world, our five carefully restored cottages offer the freedom of self-catering accommodation, elevated by artisan interiors, warm Irish hospitality, and peaceful surroundings. Whether you’re seeking rest, celebration, or a slower pace of life, every element is designed for meaningful, mindful travel.

History
Built over 100 years ago, our property features three historic cottages that were once home to the Connolly and Faherty families. These cherished buildings later became Connolly’s bar, shop, and B&B, offering locals and travelers a place filled with warmth, storytelling, and genuine Irish hospitality.
As we set out on a careful renovation journey, our vision was to preserve the charm and heritage of these iconic Irish homes while thoughtfully restoring them for modern stays. We retained many of the original features to honour the authentic character of the space.
Drawing inspiration from the stunning Connemara landscape, we combined traditional craftsmanship, natural materials, and elegant design elements. The result is a truly unique heritage stay in Ireland, where the past and present come together in comfort and welcome.
SUSTAINABILITY & LOCAL CRAFT
At Within the Village, sustainability has shaped every step of our journey — from restoring original buildings to embracing eco-conscious materials and local sourcing. Our commitment to sustainable travel in Ireland includes collaborating with skilled craftspeople from the West of Ireland, who bring traditional techniques and natural textures to life in respectful, heritage-inspired ways.
We’ve repurposed stone directly from the site and incorporated handcrafted Irish elements throughout, from ceramics and wool throws to locally made furniture and art curated from the Connemara region. Each detail reflects our ethos of environmental responsibility, cultural preservation, and support for local Irish craftsmanship.

At the heart of the property lies a beautifully curated communal garden, designed by award-winning landscaper Mark Grehan, an ideal setting for outdoor gatherings, yoga, or simply enjoying nature at your own pace.
