Paddy O’Malley makes art from out of studying the shoreline. His concrete pieces look like a part of the beach was picked up at low tide the way the waves arranged it and dropped in someone’s house. He has the utmost respect for Mother Nature, she is both his muse and, in many cases, his material.

The Tweed Project created handmade, one off pieces that combine beautiful Irish fabrics with modern tailoring for a truly authentic expression of Irish design.
The collection is made entirely of Irish fabrics, in Ireland for the world.
Operating from a small Atelier in Galway, the collection is hand made from specially selected cuts of premium Donegal Tweed and Irish Linen. Being small means that each garment gets all the love and attention that makes for an authentic one off piece of Irish design.
Joe Hogan has been making baskets at Loch na Fooey since 1978 and in that time has earned a reputation for making strong, durable baskets of the highest quality. The colours in these award winning baskets are those of the natural willows which are grown at Loch na Fooey.
In 2012 he began making nests. The aim has not been to make copies of the nests of various species of birds but rather to make nest-like objects which prompt the feeling that we are looking at a bird’s nest and thus evoke some of the feelings of joy and wonder which might accompany the finding of nests in the wild. The nests have an artlessness to them as I do not want it to be obvious that they have been made by a person.
In October 2021, he was the Crafts Council of Ireland Lifetime Achievement Award winner and received his award at Dublin Castle from President of Ireland / Uachtarán na hÉireann Michael D. Higgins.

Mark is an award-winning landscape designer from the West of Ireland but based in Dublin. He collaborates closely with his clients from concept to execution, delivering wild, elegant and contemporary garden designs.
Early in his landscaping career, Mark was awarded the Silver Gilt medal at Bloom, Ireland’s prestigious garden festival for his ‘Inis Oirr Garden’. The winning design, featuring stone walls and wild Burren landscaping is typical of his approach to landscape gardening. Staying true to nature and all that it brings, Mark’s work embraces the context and environment of every garden he designs.
Gabriel Furniture is a family business, headed by Ben Gabriel and his son Joshua, and is based in Galway, the west of Ireland since 1996.
Originally from The Netherlands, Ben Gabriel trained and worked in the UK and Australia before he and his family settled in Ireland. Joshua graduated from Letterfrack Furniture College in 2011 and has worked in various workshops both here in Ireland (Joseph Walsh) and Switzerland before joining the business in Galway. The company specialises in designing/making furniture for batch-production and individual projects for private and corporate clients. The designs are often developed by using geometry in an innovative way, which gives it their “playful” character. Individual projects are designed and created by working closely with the client to provide them with innovative and inspirational furniture.
“Good Design is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away”
Studio Panfili is a Galway based interior design firm providing clients with a personal and bespoke interior design service since 2006. They create spaces that are a reflection of the personalities of their clients.
“It was a great pleasure for me to be asked to curate the art selection for ‘Within the Village’. My focus for selection sat in with the owner’s vision for a gathering of talent from the surrounding area. Less local art and more individuals powered creatively by the vision of the surrounding landscape. Predominantly the selection was women artists but that wasn’t conscious. It is just the work that resonated most strongly.
Of course, we couldn’t not include the cerebral work of the great Joe Hogan. Here we chose his less conventional pieces in favour of his more sculptural and conceptual works.
In addition to the selection of art works, I worked closely with the owners in creating the shared vision of the aesthetic and functional space that showcases the immense local craft people and makers within the region. The resulting offering, we hope, stands the test of time as a space within a place both with a strong and deep identity.”
