Hello there!

Lorna here again ready to let you know when is the best time of year to visit our gorgeous corner of the world.

I might be biased, but Roundstone is a gem any time of year. It depends on whether you love curling up around a fire or sitting outside with a cold drink, each season has its own magic!

Spring: Nature’s Grand Awakening

As the days start to stretch out Roundstone shakes off its winter slumber. From March to May, you get to see wildflowers dotting the landscape and newborn lambs wobbling about in the fields. The weather can be a bit unpredictable so we suggest packing layers, and you will likely catch some gloriously sunny days perfect for a wander along Dog’s Bay beach.

TIP : Easter weekend brings a unique buzz to the village, with locals and visitors alike celebrating the start of the tourist season. We suggest to book early if you’re planning an Easter getaway!

Summer: Sun, Sea, and Craic

June to August is when Roundstone really comes alive. The days are long, with light lingering until nearly 11 pm in midsummer. It’s the perfect time for swimming (if you’re brave enough to face the Atlantic!), kayaking in the bay, or hiking in the nearby Twelve Bens.

Don’t miss the Roundstone Regatta in July – it’s a great spectacle of traditional Galway Hookers racing in the bay, followed by music and dancing late into the evening.

This is peak season, so book your accommodation well in advance. And don’t forget your rain gear, even summer can bring the odd Irish shower!

Autumn: A Painter’s Paradise

September to November personally might just be my favourite time in Roundstone. The summer crowds thin out, but the weather often stays mild. The changing colours of the bog and hillsides are simply stunning and it’s a time where a lot of artists are drawn here.

It’s a great time for hill walking around Roundstone, and you might even catch the start of the oyster season. Personally, I think nothing beats a plate of fresh Galway oysters and a pint of Guinness on a crisp autumn evening.

Winter: Cozy Connemara

December to February in Roundstone is for those who love wild, windswept landscapes and cozy nights by the fire. The weather can be harsh, with Atlantic storms battering the coast, but on clear days, the winter light is simply magical. It’s a time where often couples or small family’s come to get away and enjoy the crips cold followed by warm drinks in the evening, board games and those long lasting family moments.

Christmas in Roundstone is great, with the village all lit up and a real sense of community spirit. There is a high chance you might even catch a dusting of snow on the Twelve Bens which is a photographers dream, a true rare and beautiful sight.

A Few More Tips

Midges can be a nuisance in late spring and summer, especially on still evenings. Pack some insect repellent just in case.

If you’re into wildlife, spring and autumn are great for birdwatching, with migratory species passing through the village.

Whenever you visit, be sure to check the tide times. Low tide is perfect for beach walks and exploring rock pools.

In Roundstone, we don’t let a bit of rain dampen our spirits. There’s always a warm welcome (and usually a hot whiskey) waiting in the very friendly local pubs.

So, when’s the best time to visit?

Honestly, it depends on what you’re after. What I will say is that once you’ve experienced the charm of Roundstone, you’ll be planning your next visit before you’ve even left.

Looking forward to welcoming you to our little piece of the West Of Ireland , whenever it is you choose to come!
